Dirt: The Movie is an insightful and timely film that tells the story of the glorious and unappreciated material beneath our feet. Inspired by William Bryant Logan’s acclaimed book Dirt: The Ecstatic Skin of the Earth, the movie takes a humorous and substantial look into the history and current state of the living organic matter that we come from and will later return to.

Milkweed planting with UPLC
Ford River bank home
Public Welcome Family Friendly Free Event Hands-On/How-To Workshop Lots of Physical Activity
The Central U.P. Chapter of Wild Ones is patterning with the Upper Peninsula Land Conservancy to present an opportunity for hands-on learning and contributing to a habitat improvement project on private land along the Ford River south of Escanaba. We will join Clare Fastiggi, Lands Program Manager for the UPLC, to learn about the mission of the organization and their part in supporting habitat improvement at this site. We’ll pitch in as each is comfortable to plant common and swamp milkweed plugs to create pollinator habitat along the river. For anyone interested in native plantings of your own, there is no better way to learn than by doing!
We’ll also break out the grill for a riverfront BBQ after we’ve all worked up an appetite! All are welcome.

Aronson Island Plant Walk
Public Welcome Family Friendly Free Event Nature Walk/Hike Public Restroom Free Public Parking Lots of Physical Activity
Event date: Tue., 8/30 @ 6pm.
Escanaba's Aronson Island has a great variety of plants to explore in late summer. These include non-native and invasive plants as well as native species more recently planted to improve wildlife habitat, especially for migrating birds. We will take a pleasant walk to see what's in bloom, in seed, or just generally interesting.
Meet at the parking lot east of the beach house, near the dedication sign.
